Cascading Color Garden

The objective of this complete garden renovation was to provide outdoor spaces suited to the needs and desires of an active, multi-generational family. This was accomplished on the sloped site by designing terraced multiple-use activity areas woven together by beckoning garden passages.

The front entrance approach is a granite walk and stairs that wind through colorful garden beds and culminate at a welcoming, intimate patio and flagpole garden near the front door. The hub of family activity is a bluestone terrace and waterfall garden with easy access and views from the rear of the house. Children's garden play areas are separate, yet close by, and each has its own special surprise; a play house, a blueberry patch.

A garage to house an antique car collection with guest quarters above was later built into the rear slope above the house, so additional terraces were designed to access this delightful carriage house and integrate it with the main house, terrace, and waterfall garden.

The overall effect of the landscape is one of soft, intimate spaces that swell with expansiveness when called upon to do so, and whipped up, cascading, frothing color - lots of color.
